Principal's Welcome Message

Hello Vaca Peña Community!

I want to officially welcome everyone to the 2018/2019 school year! I hope that you are enjoying your last few days of summer and have some great stories to share. I am entering my third year at Vaca Peña and am privileged to have the opportunity to serve as your principal. When asked what the best part of my job is, hands down it is working alongside a dedicated and highly qualified staff that are excited to provide a quality education to your student.

Middle school is a time of growth and as your student moves up to middle school, we realize that it is a big change for students and parents. Often being in the middle is viewed as negative or difficult but at Vaca Peña Middle School, you will find that being in the middle is a lot of fun. Your student will have new teachers, tackle more rigorous expectations for learning and assignments, learn to overcome obstacles and be proactive in their independence and self-advocacy skills. Your student will get used to the unfamiliarity of middle school by making new friends and reconnecting with former friends and teammates. Middle school is the middle of your student’s educational story and they are the hero! Elementary school is in the past and high school, college and beyond is in their future.

At Vaca Peña, our students get INVOLVED!  The best way to transition to middle school is to find an activity that interests you! Studies have shown that students who participate in extracurricular activities have increased standardized test scores, GPA’s, graduation rates, college acceptance rates and college success rates.  How will you get involved?

At Vaca Peña, our students are ORGANIZED! Organized students are successful students! All students will be issued a student planner to keep their classwork and homework assignments organized. In addition to the student planner, students and parents should sign up and use School Loop to “stay in the loop” with teachers, grades and assignments.  What tools will you use to stay organized?

At Vaca Peña, our students MAKE GOOD CHOICES! Middle school is a time to meet new friends, gain independence and establish a foundation of study skills that will follow you through high school and beyond. We have the best staff in town! Ask for help when you need it, offer to help someone when you see them in need! Know the school rules, follow them, and set a positive example for your peers! These are the exemplars we expect from our students as they earn their C.L.A.W.S. … Compassion. Leadership. Adaptability. Wisdom. Safety.

We are excited to welcome you to the Panther Family and look forward to a successful year!
